Egypt river cruises in 2026 are in their peak stretch right now: the Nile’s cool season runs from autumn through spring, and the 2026–27 winter is when most of the year’s sailings happen.

The Season Month by Month

WhenWhat to expect on the NileBooking note
November 2026Warm days, cool evenings; comfortable touring.Good availability outside holiday weeks.
Christmas and New YearThe busiest weeks of the Egypt river cruise year.Often the first departures to fill.
January–February 2027Coolest months; mornings can be chilly on deck.High demand. Ramadan is expected to begin in early February 2027.
March–April 2027Warming quickly, especially in Aswan.Spring holidays push demand up again.
May–September 2027Hot to very hot in the south; touring starts at dawn.Fewer departures, except around the August eclipse.

Ramadan and the cruise

During Ramadan many Egyptians fast from dawn to sunset. Sites stay open and ships run normally, but opening hours and the rhythm of towns change, and evenings are lively. It is a perfectly good time to travel; just eat and drink discreetly in public during daylight. The exact dates depend on the sighting of the new moon.

The colossal seated statues of Ramses II at Abu Simbel
Abu Simbel is a popular add-on at any time of the cool season.

Planning a 2026 or Early-2027 Departure Now

  • Holiday weeks: if you want Christmas or New Year on the Nile and have not booked, ask now and be flexible on ship or direction.
  • Late-season value: March and April sailings are often easier to get than midwinter ones, with longer days for touring.
  • Flights: domestic flights between Cairo, Luxor and Aswan are part of most programs; if you book your own, leave a buffer before boarding.
  • Insurance: buy it when you pay your deposit, not just before you fly. See Cruise & Travel Insurance.

Line-by-line offers for the season change constantly; we do not reprint them here. Live promotions are collected on Wave Season and Cruising for Less, and our advisors will tell you which ones apply to a specific sailing.

Building the Rest of the Trip Around the Cruise

A Nile sailing in the 2026–27 season is rarely the whole holiday. Most travelers arrive through Cairo and spend two or three nights there first; many rise before dawn in Aswan for Abu Simbel; and some finish with a few lazy days on the Red Sea coast, a short domestic flight from Cairo. Winter is also the main season for the small vessels on Lake Nasser, which sail between Aswan and Abu Simbel and make a quiet second cruise inside the same trip.

Before the cruise

Cairo and Giza: the pyramids, Saqqara and the Grand Egyptian Museum. See Nile cruise from Cairo.

During the cruise

Luxor to Aswan or the reverse, three or four nights. See the day-by-day guide.

After the cruise

Abu Simbel, a Lake Nasser sailing, extra nights in Aswan, or the Red Sea.

Each piece adds flights and transfers, so the order matters. Our cruise advisors at Mister Cruise build the sequence so that you are never racing a domestic flight to catch the ship.
